چکیده
We report on a combined far- and near-field study of surface plasmon polaritons freestanding perforated gold films. The samples are fabricated by focused ion beam milling {a periodic hole array into} carbon membrane followed thermal evaporation plasma ashing the film. Optical transmission spectra show series characteristic features, which can be attributed to excitation modes via nanohole array. corresponding distributions mapped electron energy-loss spectroscopy. Besides optically bright modes, we observe in an additional dark mode, is absent normal incidence far-field spectra. Our experimental results good agreement with numerical computations based discontinuous Galerkin time-domain method.

Thickness mapping of freestanding Ionic Liquid films using Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy in the TEM
One of the biggest challenges in Electron Microscopy in fluids is to overcoming the limitation of the high vacuum requirements. To observe the dynamics of fluid samples, sophisticated fluid cells have been developed that typically use 25 nm Silicon Nitride membranes with a separation of ~ 200 nm [1]. Recently it was demonstrated that graphene can be used to trap liquids for TEM observation [2] ...

2014 Gold films deposited at room temperatures on Si are analysed by Auger and electron energy loss spectroscopies which reveal the existence of : 1) a diffuse interface ; 2) a pure gold film; 3) a mixed gold-silicon layer on top of the film. Loss spectra display gold d band features related to electronic properties of gold-silicon alloys. An estimation of the composition in the monolayer range...
متن کاملElectron energy-loss spectroscopy in the TEM
Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an analytical technique that measures the change in kinetic energy of electrons after they have interacted with a specimen. When carried out in a modern transmission electron microscope, EELS is capable of giving structural and chemical information about a solid, with a spatial resolution down to the atomic level in favourable cases. The energy resolu...

Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an analytical technique that is based on inelastic scattering of fast electrons in a thin specimen. In a transmission electron microscope (TEM) it can provide structural and chemical information about a specimen, even down to atomic resolution. This review provides an overview of the physical basis and new developments and applications of EELS in scan...

Aberration correction of the probe forming optics of the scanning transmission electron microscope has allowed the probe-forming aperture to be increased in size, resulting in probes of the order of 1 A in diameter. The next generation of correctors promise even smaller probes. Improved spectrometer optics also offers the possibility of larger electron energy loss spectrometry detectors. The lo...
